Survey on Hong Kong expatriates’ view of MTR Corporation Services

Foreword:

The Center has recently completed a survey on MTR Corporation, the only rail transport operator in Hong Kong. The survey is to find out the views of expatriates in Hong Kong whether they would still regard MTR as a first class operator after battered weekly by rioters in Hong Kong's darkest days of political turmoil in its hundred years of history.

We sent out the survey to a total of 104 consulates in Hong Kong on 27th September 2019 and requested recipients to reply in one week. Only 8 of them replied and the Center tends to believe that this survey was conducted at a politically sensitive time and it might not be convenient for the consulates to express their views publicly. Only 8 consulates replied of which only Ireland is a member of OECD and not a participant of the Belt and Road Initiative. As the Belt and Road Initiative of China has been broadening to revive the historical trans-continent Silk Road, more countries have been involved. The 7 consulates that responded are countries belonging to the larger group of the Belt and Road countries: Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Namibia, Mauritius, Vanuatu and Columbia.

Given this survey only received a small spectrum of attention, the Center does not view this survey able to reflect a true and fair view of the management capability of MTR. Nevertheless, it should reflect some local expatriates' impressions and ideas of our world-renowned rail operator. The Center expresses hereby our gratitude to the consulates.
