Mrs. Regina Ip Lau Suk Yee, GBS, JP as the speaker of Our Center’s the Belt and Road Lunch Talk Series Topic V
On November 6th 2018, the Belt and Road Lunch Talk Series V, Organized by our Center and supported by the Hong Kong Energy and Minerals United Associations, was held at The Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong. Mrs. Regina Ip Lau Suk Yee, GBS, JP, member of the Executive Council and LegCo, and Co-chair of the Maritime Silk Road Society, spoke in front of a full capacity audience.
Mrs. Regina Ip introduced the “Southern Transport Corridor” and its economic impact on mainland China and Hong Kong. She explained that the Southern Transport Corridor creates a win-win situation in China and southern Asia. For China, “Southern Transport Corridor” provides Chongqing and Western China a more direct access to international maritime trades which drives economic growth in western China provinces. She also added that for Southern Asia, the Southeast Asian products can enter Western China through this corridor in a timely and cost effective manner. Guests showed great interest in the “Southern Transport Corridor” and its economic impact on Hong Kong, leading to a lively discussion with Mrs. Ip during the Q&A session of the lunch talk.
