The panel discussion of “Belt and Road Initiative: Bringing the East and the West Together?” co-organized by our center and SOAS China Institute, was held at SOAS University of London on November 26, 2018.
Professor Tsang, Director of SOAS China Institute, chaired the panel discussion. Mr. Joseph Chan, Chairman of our center, Professor Chan, Director of One Belt One Road Institute of Chu Hai College of Higher Education, and Mr. Parton OBE, Executive board member of Chinadialogue attended as panelists. This Panel discussion focused on what the Chinese government hopes to achieve with the Belt and Road Initiative, who is the biggest financier, investment opportunities for the people of the Belt and Road recipient countries, how it is perceived in the UK and the EU. Over 300 guests participated in this event, many sensitive questions were raised by the audience and panelists were more than happy to tackle their heated questions and comments.
